Goodbye to suite 33

{ September 10th, 2007 }

This will probably be my last Monday in our current office. It is a sad yet exciting moment for ConceptShare. We are about to leave the place that we have called home for the last year. The sad reality is we have outgrown our space. This place has a story to it and I want to write about it before it is gone.

Last May we had decided to go forward with ConceptShare full time. This was to be our baby and we needed a home base to really let us feel at home. Our budget was small …. literally as cheap as we could get a habitable space. We had looked at a lot of places and didn’t really feel a connection with any of them. As luck would have it I run into Billy who comes from a long line of good people for the community. Bill’s family runs a great business in Downtown and I asked him if he had any space. He takes me to the 3rd floor of the building they own and ushers me towards #33. Not really knowing what to expect of the 100 year old building I was apprehensive.

The place was filled with printers and other electronic equipment of a age gone by… waiting to be moved at some point. The bad wall paper and horrible paint didn’t over shadow the 12ft ceilings or the wood framed doors (the ones with the windows over head) or the 8 foot windows that adorned the south wall. It was a diamond in the ruff. After some blood sweat and tears we removed the wall paper, repainted the entire room and I hand made the ConceptShare logo for the wall. It was ready …just needed furniture.

When mentioning our furniture plight to Billy he told me that we could go downstairs and pick out what ever we wanted from thier old stock and bring it up and use it. (The are in the office supply business and had recently changed the store to a major brand name and couldn’t sell the old stock) We had our choice of all the things that you need in an office.  So we then had a great space, ultra cool furniture (gratis). We were ready to rock and roll.

Fast forward to today. The office is perfect for the 3 of us ….. but not for the 6 of us. Yeah that is right we are growing … well actually doubling in size. We have pickedup 3 very talented individuals who are going to help us grow the vision.

So while Suite 33 will no longer be our base of operation it will remain in our hearts as the birthplace of CS. The help that the Querney family has given will never be forgotten and will live on in our ideals as a company and as people. Help when you can - They didn’t have to help us out …. they chose to.

We look forward to the new space and welcoming our new additions to the ConceptShare family.

Cheers from #33

Scott

    That building and the one next to it have so much charm and potential. When I worked in the store, my coworkers and I would always talk about how much we’d love to renovate the place. Despite the age and the wear and tear, you can see that underneath it all is one of the most beautiful buildings in town. The building next door (the really big empty one) is flippin’ gorgeous. It has its own apartment area in the back and three giant floors for the department store that used to be there.

    That’s a wonderful story. You are going to leave behind some great memories but you will be making way for the future of CS. Good luck growing up. Wonderful times ahead. Don’t forget the helping hands and when you have a chance step up and help a new entrepreneur. I hear there are a few in Sudbury!

    I have been tossing the idea around about having an open desk for any little startup that might be looking for help. Sort of the ConceptShare micro incubator….

    I’m glad I was able to spend a little time in that building. Thanks again for always making sure I had a place to work whenever I made trips to Sudbury. I look forward to seeing the space.
