The Web2.0 moniker
{ March 30th, 2006 }
Ok so i hate it, what can i say. It’s so buzzy and non descriptive.
I like what it stands for …i just hate how people have been bastardizing it.
A few weeks back i ran into a colleague from another firm in town and i asked him how things are going and he indicated that he was working on some “web 2 stuff” I questioned further and tried to ascertain what they were up to ….it turns out that it was a buzz word that he figured he could drop in to the conversation and i would just oh an ahhh. Wrong.
I have noticed sites have been using the “web2.0″ as a sales tool. That is great …but just because an app is made in ajax or in ROR doesn’t mean it is a web 2.0 app …..or does it?
I like to think that “web 2.0″ apps are designed and created to meet the needs of real people? Basecamp for example great web app for managing project based communications. Great it works…it fills a need and it does it well.
All i can say is you wont see me out there dropping the web2 bomb any time soon. That is because we are working on web 2.2 apps. just kidding.
cheers
Scott
